New York (Top40 Charts/ Jazz At Lincoln Center PR) - Jazz at Lincoln Center offers the soulful and swingin' sounds of an explosive era in music with Soul Jazz of the '60s. Small bands like Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers and the Cannonball Adderley and Horace Silver quintets produced some of the best-loved music of that time, combining tight ensembles with emotional solos that produced a bluesy, church-driven, down-home sound.
The evening features two all-star groups led by two all-star musicians: alto saxophonist Wess "Warmdaddy" Anderson showcasing his inspiration by Cannonball Adderley, and drummer Kenny Washington channeling his hero drummer Art Blakey and master composer-pianist Horace Silver. Washington's group consists of Nicholas Payton (trumpet), Grant Stewart (saxophone), Mike LeDonne (piano) and David Wong (bass). Anderson's group consists of Nnenna Freelon (vocals), Terell Stafford (trumpet), Benny Green (piano), Gerald Cannon (bass) and Louis Hayes (drums).

There is a free pre-concert discussion, nightly at 7pm, hosted by Jazz at Lincoln Center's Ken Druker. Pre-concert discussions are free to all ticketholders. This concert is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts, through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
