New York (Top40 Charts/ Prosciutto di Parma ) - Parma celebrates its most famous citizen, Giuseppe Verdi, with a month-long festival of operas and concerts held at Teatro Regio, Parma's famous opera house, and smaller venues around the city. Every day, during the month of October, a Verdi opera will be performed for audiences who come from all over the world to hear Verdi's music performed in the city where he lived and worked.

News ImageFood is another reason for visitors to celebrate Parma! The Emilia-Romagna region produces some of Italy's finest foods, including Prosciutto di Parma. The world-renowned air-cured ham has been made in the Parma area since the 2nd century BC. Historical documents show that, through the centuries, Prosciutto di Parma was displayed proudly on the tables of medieval nobility, Renaissance princes and prosperous merchants.

Today, Prosciutto di Parma is still made using the same traditional methods with only three ingredients: the hind legs of specially bred Italian pigs, sea salt and air. Hams are lovingly cured for a minimum of 400 days and many are aged up to 18 or 24 months.

Visitors to Parma during the Verdi Festival-or anytime-are invited to see the Prosciutto di Parma museum located in Langhirano's ancient Forum Boarium between the old town and the Parma river in the heart of the prosciutto-making production zone.

Also, arrangements can be made to tour Prosciutto di Parma production houses. For more information, please contact danielle(at) lewis-neale (dot) com. To learn more about the Verdi Festival, go to https://www.teatroregioparma.org/verdifest/index.htm.
