LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts/ C12 Records) - Full-throttle guitar rockers and soaring vocals unite on The Luxury, the debut release from Domenica. Recorded in both Winnipeg and Los Angeles while on tour, The Luxury features Marcos Curiel (P.O.D.) and Stevie
Salas (George Clinton, Mick Jagger) alongside of Domenica's signature raw and melodic scorchers. The Luxury was released on
September 15th, 2009 and features the band's first single and video "Above Me".
Over the past five years, Domenica has straddled the line between hook-filled rock and metalcore. They've built an army of fans that stretches from their hometown of Winnipeg, all the way to Los Angeles, Berlin, London and across Canada. The Luxury - produced by Juno Award winning producer Brandon Friesen, tracked at Matt Sorum's (Guns 'n' Roses, Velvet Revolver) private Hollywood studio with Tom Baker (NIN, Billy Talent) at the mastering engineer helm - is the long anticipated result.
"We're thrilled to release this album. Having the opportunity to record with both Marcos and Stevie was unbelievable!" exclaims lead vocalist Bekki Friesen. "And now we get to follow it up by supporting Grady on some tour dates? We're all fans of Gordie Johnson. It will be exciting to have a stage-side view where we can watch them tear up the stage every night."
With musical influences ranging from System of a Down to Metric, Domenica's distinct take on hook-laden modern rock has been embraced overseas - from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and, perhaps most notably, Japan.
"Since our record dropped in Japan this September, the response has been overwhelming," marveled Bekki. "Retail has our album front racked everywhere. HMV's been a huge supporter, spinning the "Above Me" video in store and on the outside jumbotron's everyday. The Japanese press has been incredibly enthusiastic with multi-page features in Burn and Geikirock. Now, there's a guitar maker in Tokyo that wants to make a Bekki model. We're really taken back by all the attention over there. Just ... wow."
The upcoming Japan tour in January will cap off an incredibly busy time for Domenica. In the last year, Domenica has performed in four countries, left industry jaws agape at exclusive showcases, built their own fan-based street team and toured with Papa Roach. This next round of tour dates will give them time to keep living The Luxury in Canada before they head back to the rehearsal space and prep for the ensuing international tour.
Domenica's first video for "Above Me" has been getting fantastic support on MuchMusic while the single, which is available for free on their website, has been downloaded thousands of times in less than a month. Look for The Luxury in stores and online.
