NEW YORK (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) - There's an Aston
Martin coming out of the Wicked Cool Garage and it's ready to roar on to the scene. In the words of world renowned Rolling Stone reviewer,
David Fricke, '"Rock and Roll doesn't need saving, the cure's right here."
On their previous album, 'Rentacrowd,' The Len Price 3 earned triumphant reviews from USA Today, Rolling Stone, and MTV. The band built a solid fan base with universally appealing songs and lyrics. Their unique brand of power pop shook you to your soul, making you want more and more. With stand out tracks such as "If I Ain't Got You,", and "Julia Jones," 'Rentacrowd' amounted to one of the best new and exciting albums to hit the rock scene in years!
On the new record 'Pictures,' The Len Price 3 offer a strong collection of songs that captures the electricity of their live shows and showcases the band's musical abilities. If you've loved their music in the past you will not be disappointed and if you've never heard them you'll be blown away. They have taken the essence of great song writing and added the kick and pure excitement of rock 'n' roll to create a pop explosion bursting with youthful energy, spirit and power.
'Pictures' is a set of musical snapshots about people the band have encountered and is filled with observations of the light and dark side of the modern world. "I'm just reporting things that I've seen, heard about or been involved in," says Glenn Page, (singer and guitarist) "I suppose it's the confessions of a voyeur." In his own words, here are a few of highlights from the record:
'Pictures' - This track is one of my favorites and it seemed to lend itself perfectly to the album title. It's short, sharp, and punchy and combines all of what the Len Price 3 do best - energy, melody and harmony.
'The Girl Who Became a Machine' - I like this for two reasons. Firstly, it's a lot of fun to play live and secondly it was one of those songs that wrote itself we didn't have to work at it. It all just came naturally, then we took it into the studio, worked out some keyboard parts to add a little flavor and the job was done!
'After You're Gone' - This has a lot of sentimental value as it's about my grandparents and in particular, the death of my grandmother in the summer of 2008. It's got a really great feel to it and the middle section features a Beach Boys meets the Turtles vocal extravaganza .
'Mr. Grey' -This one is a salutary lesson for all you workaholics out there. It's about a man who is living the dream - money, family, cars, houses and all that comes with success then loses it all and ends up killing himself. I love the contrast between the somber message and the upbeat singalong feel of the song.
'Pictures' was a labor of love for Wicked Cool and had the benefit of hands on input from label founder Stevie Van Zandt. The album was recorded in the band's home town at Ranscombe Studios and Squarehead Studios. In true Len Price 3 style they recorded on analogue to capture that vintage, earthy sound that only tape can provide. The album was produced by The Len Price 3, Jim Riley, Graham Day and Kris Harris.
Their first album, 'Chinese Burn,' re-issued in 2007 on Wicked Cool, still appeals to everyone and wins more fans as they discover this gem. Songs from their second album, 'Rentacrowd' were featured in several high profile ad campaigns and they typify the magic and melody that captures the minds of us all.
This is an old school success story in the making. A slow and meticulous build that has taken time, care and patience to reach its potential but has now culminated in the release of 'Pictures.'
With 'Pictures,' the Len Price 3 has taken the leap that you hope all bands will. Whether or not you know them already - prepare to be blown away.
Put it on and enjoy !
