New York (Top40 Charts/ TECO) - The Press Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York (TECO) is pleased to announce that Kou Chou Ching, a Taiwanese hip-hop band applauded as :Taiwan?s Hip Hop Ambassadors,; has been nominated for four awards at the 2009 Just Plain Folks
Music Awards in Tennessee. On their way, the band will be visiting and performing in New York and New Jersey from August 23rd to August 27th.
Tony Ong, Director of TECO's Press Division, points out that Kou Chou Ching's visit highlights Taiwan's efforts to promote its crucial emerging cultural and creative industry at home and abroad. The music sector will certainly play a key role in this industry?s expanding global presence.
Yet before Kou Chou Ching left for the States, they witnessed the devastation of Typhoon Morakot in the worst natural disaster Taiwan has seen in 50 years. The typhoon left over 7,000 people homeless, with a death toll likely to reach 500. In light of these tragic events, during their trip Kou Chou Ching will sell CDs of their music and donate the profits in support of relief and rehabilitation efforts.
An innovative genre-blending act formed in 2003, Kou Chou Ching has emerged as one of Taiwan?s most famous hip-hop groups. Bringing together traditional Taiwanese opera, southern Chinese classical, Hakka eight notes, and aboriginal folk song with contemporary hip-hop, reggae and more, their sound has won international critical acclaim. Their music can be heard online at: www.myspace.com/koucc.
