New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Multi Packaging Solutions) - Chickenfoot, the legendary rock band, including frontman Sammy Hagar, guitarist Joe Satriani, Red Hot
Chili Peppers' drummer Chad Smith, former
Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, released their self-titled debut album with an eye towards entertaining fans even before experiencing the first track.
Released in both CD and LP formats, the packaging features temperature sensitive ink that changes from opaque black to transparent when warmed by the touch of a hand. The cover graphics and song titles on the back cover are concealed until fans activate the inks through touch. Designed by Meat and Potatoes and manufactured by Multi Packaging Solutions, both versions have full front and back coverage of the custom thermochromic ink, providing fans with a large area to interact with hidden images and messages. Depending on where heat is applied, images are revealed in different locations on the packaging and are concealed again when the ink cools.
'Chickenfoot was a dream project. 4 rock legends, with 12 turn-it-up-louder rock songs, and 1 album cover to visually contain their energy. It had to be bold yet subtle at the same time,' says Todd Gallopo, Creative Director of Meat and Potatoes and designer of the Chickenfoot packaging. 'I pitched the thermo concept after a few rounds thinking 'this could be amazing, this could be the solution, but would they actually go for it?' The band immediately warmed up to the thermo ink concept and I thought, 'Oh great! Uh-oh great, now how are we going to pull this off?' Luckily, I had Brit Davis and the team at MPS to help tame the complexity of this package. I could not have imagined a better finished product from a more dedicated team.'
'Seriously, the Foot couldn't have asked for a more mind-blowing package design. The fans are experiencing a nod back to the days of getting lost in a trippy LP design, and loving it!' sings Joe, Chad, Mike and Sammy of Chickenfoot. 'We knew we had something special with the music, and we wanted the packaging to take the fans to another level. When Todd proposed the idea of using this special ink, it all just clucked, um clicked.'
'To create the fan experience Todd envisioned, it was critical that Multi Packaging Solutions develop the ideal ink formula and press environment,' commented John Cote, Vice President of Innovation and Technology for Multi Packaging Solutions. 'We were able to draw upon our technical expertise and range of printing technologies to successfully translate this unique design concept into a viable finished package.'
'We enjoyed working with Todd on this challenging and exciting project,' remarked Brit Davis, Vice President Sales, for Multi Packaging Solutions. 'Having the capabilities to develop and manufacture this project in-house simplified collaboration with Meat and Potatoes.'
