New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Mariposa Folk Festival PR) - Lanois' critically acclaimed recordings have stood out in the past two decades as among the finest, from his astonishing first album, Acadie, in 1989, to The Omni Series box set in 2008. Over and over again, Lanois shows us why so many people sing his praises.
Lanois is a gifted producer as well, crafting some of the greatest albums in recent memory including U2's Achtung Baby, Bob Dylan's Oh Mercy and Time Out of Mind, Emmy Lou Harris' Wrecking Ball, as well as memorable albums by Peter Gabriel, Robbie Robertson, The Neville Brothers, Hothouse Flowers 1990, Ron Sexsmith, Willie Nelson, Sine'ad O'Connor and many others.
Lanois plays the guitar, pedal steel and drums. His wide range of talent has infused the albums he has produced with an atmospheric and emotionally resonant signature sound.
In 2005 Lanois was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame. Both Emmylou Harris and Dave Matthews regularly cover his songs during their live performances. The Jerry Garcia Band regularly performed "The Maker" in concert. And Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris also released a cover of a Daniel Lanois tune.
"We are very excited to have Daniel Lanois on our stage this year" said Artistic Director, Mike Hill. "Lanois epitomizes what Mariposa is all about, which is honest, authentic, and powerful music of the highest calibre".
Lanois will perform on Mariposa's main stage on Saturday night of Mariposa Folk Festival. The festival line-up also includes The Proclaimers, Buffy Sainte Marie, Steven Page, Luke Doucet and dozens more great performers on 9 stages.
