LONDON, UK (Top40 Charts/ Ivor Novello Awards Website) - British band Elbow have had their songwriting talents honoured with two gongs at the Ivor Novello awards. They picked up best contemporary song for Grounds For Divorce and best song musically and lyrically for One Day Like This.
The band's win in the latter category meant warehouse worker Tim Hemming left the ceremony empty-handed.
The guitarist and songwriter from little-known indie band The Leisure Societyhad been the shock nomination of the awards.

Coldplay and The Ting Tings were handed one award apiece, although neither group turned up to collect them.
Coldplay's Viva La Vida got best-selling British song, while TheTing Tings received best album.
It took one of the last awards to be announced for welsh songtressDuffy to get some silverware.
She was nominated for three awards but left with just one, receiving the PRS for music's most performed work for her single Mercy.

Smokey Robinson received his special international award to huge applause but downplayed his win.
He said: "I'm not an isolated songwriter. It just happens. You can be in the car, in the toilet, and something comes to you. Sometimes, it's a song.
"To get awards for something you love is ironic to me... This is like icing on the cake."

Meanwhile songwriter of the year went to Eg White, who has worked with Adele and Duffy, and wrote Will Young's number one hit Leave Right.
