New York, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) - 2009 brings more accolades and exciting performances for GRAMMY Award-winning jazz icon Herbie Hancock. Following numerous performances during inauguration week including the 'We Are One' concert, Hancock, a chairman of the Thelonious Monk Institute, headed to India in January to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King's historic visit. Just recently, the LA Philharmonic Association announced that Hancock would take the position of Creative Chair for Jazz.

Other upcoming activities include:
*May 9 - Loyola University in New Orleans will present Hancock with the degree of Doctor of Music, Honoris Causa at their commencement.

*May 14 - Hancock and Lang Lang will perform at the Classical Brit Awards at Royal Albert Hall in London.

*May 16 - Hancock will deliver the commencement address to the prestigious Bentley University/McCallum Graduate School of Business and be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters.

*May 18 - Hancock will be the guest artist performing at American Ballet Theatre's 2009 Spring Gala at the Metropolitan Opera House. Please visit www.abt.org for more information.

*The Herbie Hancock & Lang Lang Dueling Pianos Tour inspired by their performance on the 2008 GRAMMY Awards telecast comes to the US with the following dates set:
July 28 - Chicago's Ravinia Festival - Chicago, IL with Chicago Symphony
July 30 - Philadelphia's Mann Center - Philadelphia, PA with Philadelphia Orchestra
August 1 - NJPAC - Newark, NJ with New Jersey Symphony
August 7 and 8 - Hollywood Bowl - Los Angeles, CA with LA Philharmonic

Last year proved to be a landmark for Hancock with the GRAMMY Album of The Year win for 'River: The Joni Letters' (Verve), a spot in the TIME 100 list of the most influential people in the world, and the induction of his album 'Head Hunters' into the GRAMMY Hall of Fame.
