MUNICH, GERMANY (Top40 Charts/ Strategy Analytics) - Most German broadband users prefer Amazon for online media purchases according to a survey just published by Strategy Analytics. The report, 'Digital Media Survey: Germany Country Profile,' asked broadband users in Germany from which sites they would prefer to buy downloaded music, video and games. Amazon was the first or second preferred brand within each category and the most preferred brand across all three categories--ahead of other leading digital media brands such as Apple iTunes, MSN and eBay.
This survey also revealed that accessing online premium content through all legal channels--whether free advertising funded content or online purchase and online rental of digital content-- is now more popular among German broadband users than unlawful peer-to-peer (P2P) downloads for all the three key online content categories: online premium video, digital music and PC & video games.
'While Germany is still some way behind many other markets when it comes to online media services, the market is now getting ready to take off and market share is up for grabs,' commented Jia Wu, Analyst at Strategy Analytics Digital Media Practice and author of the report.
'As Amazon launches its MP3 download store in Germany, it is putting tremendous pressure on the market leaders, Apple iTunes and Musicload from Deutsche Telekom,' said Martin Olausson, Director of Digital Media Research at Strategy Analytics. 'We are expecting a fierce battle for supremacy in the German online music market in the months ahead and our research suggests that newcomer Amazon may very well come out on top.'
