Salerno, Salerno, ITALY (Top40 Charts/ Daybox Records) - "The spirit that wanders the meaning of this life is often pushing and manifests itself as notes and guitar chords. Then it proclaims its poems with writings and thoughts: confrontation of opposites and clash of far essences; wavey curves and angel's feet; painful colours and grey smiles. A single malt flows through the velvets of your mouth and spreads, contaminated by the aroma of a dark cigar.
The adventure of the band began about 10 years ago. There were many alterations during the formation of the band, but Angelo remained faithful to the original oath: our lives for the music of 3x0. In 2004 the first homonymous EP was recorded and received high acclaim for its originality.
Since then, the work of 3x0 in the Real World Studios has been continuous. The natural aptitude of the songwriter, Angelo, who has effectively been the driving force behind the 3x0 project, has continually improved. The interesting collaboration with Mauro Aimetti, the bass player, began in 2005.
The original scripts, (harmony-melody-lyrics) arranged by Angelo, already characterized by an eccentric, artistic arrangement, are now able to assume a different colour and atmosphere thanks to the progbasso and that special touch of Mauro.
In 2006 following many experiments and continual improvements, Angelo met John Snell, singer, composer and skillful guitarist from London, with whom there was an immediate, intense, mutual rapport. John manages to interpret and sing brilliantly the 3x0 songs. Line by line, the lyrics (first in Italian, then in English) and the melodies, are maximised through Johns depth of feeling and experience: a very interesting association.
Now, to the spring of 2007, there is a recording session at the Real World Studios of Peter Gabriel with the collaboration of Ged Lynch, already drummer and percussionist with Peter Gabriel himself and other important stars of world repute.
A quality job rooted in ancient songs and Mediterranean sounds, epic vicissitudes and sensual women, heroic deeds of British knights and the best sound of the world, cool.
John Snell (vocals and acoustic guitar): Highly talented artist from near Windsor: robust, sensual and evocatively rich voice, always manages to control and harmonise numerous voices along the same line of melody. He is extremely able with the acoustic guitar and even more so in the interpretation and personalization of the melodies and the lyrics written in Italian and translated by Angelo and to cleverly adapt them into his unmistakable style, Typical British Sound!
Angelo Marrocco (song writer - electric guitar and programming): His strong thought processes, inspired with folly impulsiveness and sensual memories, his laptop, his guitar, his microsynth, together, give birth to the 3x0 compositions. Oblique harmonies, but sometimes so simple, they seem absurd (C Am for a complete composition), out of the ordinary patterns and a distinct, predisposition for the treatment of sound, then his irriplaceable delay and his evocative, sonic invasions with numerous types of slide, united and interwoven with multiple and unusual successions of analogic and digital effects.
Mauro Aimetti (progressive bass man and backing vocals): Listening first to the original versions of the songs, then the registrations made with Mauro, one realises that they are the same in essence, but the colours of the bass low frequency have brought about a particular 3x0 production. He has a great technique, matured over years of study and positive experiences and cannot hide the most intimate nature of the 4 cord poet that comes forth each time he is held prisoner to those strange melodies (Tourist of Empty Spaces). It would be difficult to find a similar bass player, anywhere.
Ged Lynch (drum and percussion last recording session guest): Ged Lynch was born and raised in the north of England where he first came to prominence with Platinum selling band Black Grape, playing both Drumset and Percussion. Since then he has worked consistently as a session player on many disparate recordings, mixing a love of hard groove playing with the freedom of expression and scope that Percussion provides.
In 1999 he first worked for Peter Gabriel on the OVO project, and does to the present day. In 2007, Ged formed Tug Music along with Mark Jones and Daniel Blore composing music for tv, film, and games. Recording Artists: Black Grape, Charlatans, Big Dog, David Sylvian, David Gilmour, Joe Strummer, Hanson, Natalie Imbruglia, Peter Gabriel, Chrissie Hynde, Tom Jones, Electronic (Johnny Marr and Bernard Sumner) Film SoundTracks include: The Batchelor, Sea monsters, The Jackal, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, 28 Days Later, Transmission, Snatch, Rabbit Proof Fence, 51st State, City by the Sea. Review by Francesco Salvatorelli
Immagine you have a little time on your hands to get out of the daily routine, a little time to dedicate to yourself, to your body and soul, to search for some inner acceptance that you cant quite put your finger on. So you sit down on a lawn, lean back against a tree, and express your feelings.
This is Silver. An album recorded over the course of three years in which three years of moments and moods are put to music with a Radiohead breeze tussling the hair, the aroma of a Waters bass, a light touch of synth and an aura of acoustic guitar. And although you may find numerous echoes in this style, in these arrangements and in these compositions, dont expect to find before you a pompous masterpiece. This is not a masterpiece; it has no intention of being one.
The objective is far more minimalistically basic and communicative. It wouldnt be a bad idea to follow the Album with the booklet in hand, allowing yourself to be guided by the lyrics written in Italian but translated into English for the British singer John Snell and also by the images, to be interpreted little by little with each listen.
Nothing too refined, the only objective being peace of mind, somewhere between simplicity and the acceptance of those sensations that flow through us every day, influenced by everything that happens around us.
This is the first full length album produced by 3x0 (pronounced tray-pair-zair-oh) a group from Salerno determined to give a more British sound to their music. The album is defined by the group themselves in the booklet as a container for three years of life. Various situations, various sensations, but only one vast and deep love for the music of the heart. It is not an album that needs to be understood: let it flow over you, and if it fits, youll have no problem accepting it as your mantle of notes.
