New York, NY. (Top40 Charts/ RSTAR Publicity) - The
Kings of Hip-Hop Soul, aka Samson and Sejour, break onto the scene with their first critically-acclaimed song and video, 'Women Make The World Go Round.' The track, which features Hip-Hop Violinist Miri Ben-Ari, started making waves virally on the Internet. The recently-released video has received much praise around the world and is currently in rotation on MTV France, among other video channels and sites.
In addition to tv and Internet, the music and acting communities have been coming out in support of Samson and Sejour's venture as well. Mark Ronson, award-winning producer, believes they are 'Perhaps one of the best groups in hip-hop today.' CEO of Black Girls Rock, Beverly Bond 'Has been loving this song for a while, and I love Samson and Sejour. Great song and video. We need this.' Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody sums it up by saying 'Women do make the world go round. Dope song and video. Hip-hop needs this, it's perfect timing.' And, of course, Ms. Cyndi Lauper, whose theme song for the 80s was all about girls and women, agreed. 'I love this song, it's beautiful. It takes me back to 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.' It's a great video.'
Samson and Sejour, a New York-born and raised hip-hop duo, have been working on this song (and others from an upcoming album) for the past few years. While they have worked with many producers before, this is their first solo quest. The guys bring it back to the early '90s with a sound described as 'De La Soul meets EPMD.' On a real level, they have a feel-good vibe while spitting lyrics about an increasingly important social issue: violence against women. 'This is an issue that we've always felt strongly about,' says Josue Sejour. 'Samson and I were raised by strong women. We want to represent the other side of the fence where it's okay to respect our women. They deserve it.' The single 'Women Make The World Go Round' speaks the same sentiment. Respecting all women - mothers, sisters, girlfriends, and, yes, 'baby mommas.' The song is the first step in a movement they've spearheaded to bring awareness to this issue. They have also created a separate MySpace profile, Samson and Sejour Women Unite, posting information on how to help women in abusive situations with rape, incest, eating disorders, physical, mental and emotional abuse.
The video, directed by Kamisol, features Miri Ben-Ari playing violin among women and girls of all ages, races and creeds. Interwoven among footage of Samson and Sejour are the girls and women dancing and holding handwritten signs reading 'Respect Me,' 'I'm More Than Flesh,' 'I Complete You' and 'Not Happy How My Boys Treat Me.' The video is available on their MySpace page and also online at Vimeo.com https://www.vimeo.com/3428390
'Women Make The World Go Round' is the first single from Samson and Sejour. Producers contributing to their upcoming album include Mark Ronson, Rockwilder, Miri Ben-Ari, Todd Terry and Armand Van Helden.
