10th Annual Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival

Brooklyn, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium) - Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium (CBJC) presents its 10th Annual Central Brooklyn Jazz Festival from April 1 thru 30, 2009. This month long celebration of an American original art form Jazz, will be held in venues throughout Brooklyn, New York. Some of the musicians and events scheduled include: legendary jazz drummer Roy Haynes, Randy Weston, Dave Valentin, Houston Person, Melba Moore, Ronnie Mathews/Freddie Hubbard Tribute, symposiums, youth programs, and the Brooklyn Jazz Hall of Fame & Museum induction ceremony.

Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium is proud to present The Roy Haynes Fountain of Youth Band on Saturday, April 4th at Brooklyn Tech Auditorium, 29 Fort Greene Place in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Roy Haynes, the world's greatest living jazz drummer, has performed with Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Sarah Vaughan and Thelonious Monk just to name a few.

Brooklyn's legacy in the jazz community is well documented. From the 1940s thru 1970s jazz greats such as Andy Kirk, Max Roach, Ray Abrams, Wynton Kelly and McCoy Tyner were frequent attractions at jazz shrines such as Sonia Ballroom, Blue Coronet, Putnam Central and The East.

CBJC began Brooklyn's jazz rebirth in April 1999 when its founders: Viola Plummer, Alma Carroll and Torrie McCartney brought together faith based institutions, entertainment venues and musicians and produced a week long jazz festival during Jazz Appreciation Month (US public law 108-72).

A decade later from April 1-30, 2009 CBJC is hosting a month long jubilee celebration of African American classical music-Jazz, at diverse venues such as: Weeksville Heritage Center, Brooklyn Historical Society, BAMcafe Live, Hitchcock Institute for Studies in American Music at Brooklyn College, Dweck Center for Contemporary Culture-Brooklyn Public Library Central Branch, Sugar Hill Restaurant & Supper Club, Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza, Concord Baptist Church of Christ as well as community venues. The back bone of this grass roots Brooklyn jazz festival is its local musicians and the community at large.
