NEW YORK (Top40 Charts/ Vanguard Jazz Orchestra Official Website) - As the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra was getting ready for the downbeat at the Village Vanguard in New York City, Douglas Purviance (the VJOs bass trombonist) was accepting the Best Large Jazz Ensemble GRAMMY award for their critically acclaimed recording Monday Night Live at the Village Vanguard. The double CD, produced by Planet Arts Recordings and the VJO's non profit entity Sixteen As One Music Inc., was recorded one year ago, almost to the day, at most famous jazz club in the world. The recording, dedicated to long time bassist Dennis Irwin, marks the sixth project by the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. With nine GRAMMY nominations, one AFIM award and two GRAMMY wins, the VJO continues the award winning legacy of founding members Thad Jones and Mel Lewis.
