LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts/ World Ambient Symphony Official Website) - World Ambient Symphony (WAS) has released their 2nd CD, 'Random Walk out of the Sun'. It is a studio recording of real-time music making and precisely shows off their Tangerine Dream meets old-era Pink Floyd, sonic sculptures. WAS is a group that provides a sound that is cinematic and organic in scope, with no limitations. They move from world music, to hints of jazz, to soundscapes, to all out noise.

World Ambient Symphony Group Bio:

World Ambient Symphony, W.A.S. for short, has had a long convoluted career with many member changes. The group started out in 2002 as the brainchild of percussionist, Koorosh Daryaie as a vehicle for sonic exploration. He enlisted bassist Daren Burns, Trumpet player Dusty Mckinney, and guitarist Carl Jah, of Dread Zeppelin fame. They played gigs around the Pasadena area for a time and in 2003 Carl left and was replaced by Ruben Ramos on guitar. W.A.S. continued to play around town and went tnto the recording studio. They released their first CD entitled 'World Ambient Symphony' in August of 2003. This was a more song-oriented album but hinted at where they were headed on the track 'Hornets Nest' a freely improvised track. After some internal group problems Dusty and Ruben left the group and W.A.S. took a hiatus for a brief period.

Koorosh didn't want W.A.S. to die off and started searching for replacements. He soon found Matt Piper, a musician he thought would gel rather nicely with Daren Burns and himself. They got together to play and found that they did indeed have a good chemistry, as well as a very different sound from the previous incarnation of W.A.S., more like what Koorosh had wanted from the outset, a sound more cinematic and organic in scope with no limitations.

World Ambient Symphony started a monthly residency, with the new trio, at Poo Bah Records in Pasadena, CA, which has continued for over 3 years, and honed their performance skill. They have also played various gigs in the Los Angeles area and recently played a New Years Eve show at Royal/T in Culver City, CA.

Individual Bios:

Koorosh Daryaie
Koorosh Daryaie started his career in music as a Drummer first, and quickly went to percussion when he discovered electronic instruments. He quickly embraced the electronic avant-garde music scene and built his live performance rig around a Korg Wave Drum, and three Mandala drums, augmented with some guitar effect pedals, and an Oberheim Echoplex Looping device. Interested parties looking for traditional percussion sounds enhanced by modern technology can catch Koorosh playing live with his Improve Electronic avant-garde group World Ambient Symphony.

Matt Piper
Music has been Matt Piper's focus and true love from an early age. His instruments include electric guitar (often with a mad scientist's array of effects pedals on the floor), classical and steel string acoustic guitars, electric and acoustic fretless bass, banjo, ukulele, piano, keyboards/knobs through laptop computer, zither, wood flutes, metal bowls and any object from which he can coax a pleasing sound. Since moving to Los Angeles from Illinois in 1991, Piper's signature improvised sound design and avant-garde musical stylings have become a recognized part of L.A.'s underground electronic music scene. In addition to World Ambient Symphony, collaborators include violinist/sound designer Laura Escude, electronic artists John von Seggern (Vibration Institute) and Nalepa (Bass Science), as well as jazz musicians such as guitarist Lorenzo Grassi and saxophonist/flutist Vince Meghrouni, whose performances are often seasoned with Piper's ambient atmospheres. Most recently, Piper has become the bassist for the rock band Silence.

Daren Burns
Daren Burns is an electric bass player, composer, and improviser who's musical interest lies in the area between improvisation and composition and who seeks to synthesize a new music through all that he has absorbed before him, who's musical interest lies in the area between improvisation and composition and creating new systems for developing improvisation in new ways. In the past few years he has also become interested in classical Indian rhythmic and melodic systems.
