NEW YORK (NY RnB magazine) - Ashanti and Ja Rule fans haven't exactly been hurting for material from their favourite artists. The two Murder Inc. stars have dominated the R&B and hip hop charts for the last year and now they're aiming to conquer the box office too. Ja and Ashanti will star opposite each other in a remake of the 1976 classic, "Sparkle," which originally starred Irene Cara and Phillip Michael Thomas from Miami Vice fame. "Sparkle" which will be directed by Murder Inc. CEO Irv Gotti follows a female singer's rise to fame not unlike Mariah Carey's 2001 flop "Glitter." Let's hope it does better. According to the L.A. times Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff will be helping Gotti break into film production. Federal investigators are currently conducting a money-laundering probe of links between Gotti and McGriff, a convicted drug lord.
