NEW YORK (RIAA) - Craig David has gone gold in the U.S. with his second album, Slicker Than Your Average, which features his latest single, "Hidden Agenda."

The 21-year-old David's sophomore set on Wildstar/Atlantic has been certified gold by the RIAA for sales of 500,000 copies. The album is the follow-up to his platinum 2001 debut, Born To Do It, which has now sold more than 1.5 million copies in the U.S.

David recently told us about the differences between his latest offering and Born To Do It. "I think, for this one, the DJ inside me kinda really let loose," David said. "I wanted to have some tracks that were more club-based, at the same time still making sure that the topline was strong and the song-driven tracks were on the album, which were more familiar to the first album. I just wanted to also kinda push the envelope slightly with the sound that I was trying to create, like with flavors--very different to sound from the first album, very much more influenced from the P-Funk area, the Roger Troutman/Teddy Riley/Peter Frampton talk-box vocoder stuff."

For "Hidden Agenda," David worked with producer and co-writer Mark Hill, who collaborated with the singer on many of the tracks on Born To Do It. The song was recorded last year at Hill's villa in Ibiza, Spain. The new video for "Hidden Agenda" was shot in Veracruz, Mexico, directed by Calabazitaz (Mos Def), and co-stars Brazilian actress Roselyn Sanchez (Rush Hour II).

Craig David is nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of best male pop vocal performance for his 2002 top-10 single, "7 Days." Back home in the U.K., he's up for two Brit Awards: best British urban act and best British male solo artist.
