SEATTLE, WA. (Top40 Charts/ Recording Academy) - The Recording Academy Pacific Northwest Chapter is hosting its third annual GRAMMY MusicTech Summit, a two-day conference that examines the intersection of music and technology and issues defining the music landscape. Taking place in Seattle Nov. 6 - 7 at McCaw Hall, the GRAMMY MusicTech Summit 08 will focus on digital music and the business, legal and creative issues it presents to the music industry and consumers.

Keynote speaker Ian Rogers, CEO of Topspin, will open the conference, which will consist of 14 panels with high-profile music and technology leaders, hands-on demonstrations, a trade area featuring company exhibits, and networking lunches. Showcasing Seattle's influence and interest in the music industry, the conference attendance doubled in 2007 with more than 450 attendees and The Recording Academy expects to have twice as many participants at the 2008 event.

'The MusicTech Summit brings together top minds in music and technology to explore and further define the nature of the business in an environment where technology continues to shape the way people create, experience and purchase music,' said Pacific Northwest Chapter Executive Director Ben London. 'Seattle has significantly influenced the current music landscape through its strong music and technology heritage, so it's the perfect place to create a forum that discusses how these two entities intertwine and harmonize."

Industry veteran Ian Rogers will kick-off the Summit with a keynote address on Nov. 6 at 10:15 a.m. Former director of Yahoo! Music, Rogers has helped define the way artists and consumers promote and experience digital media online. Rogers also worked as president of New Media for the Beastie Boys' record label and lifestyle brand Grand Royal. He currently serves as CEO at Topspin, a media technology company that develops leading-edge marketing software and services to help build businesses and brands within the music industry.

Additional music and technology leaders, such as Josh Rosenfeld (owner, Barsuk Records), Megan Jasper (vice president, Sub Pop Records), Gary Calamar (music supervisor, Six Feet Under, Dexter, Entourage) and Jeremy Welt (Warner Brothers Records), will pilot a series of panels that explore the crossroads of music and technology with key sessions including:

* Evolution of Record Labels
* Youth Attitudes on Music Consumption
* New Media Contracts
* Digital Distribution
* Touring and Technology
* Music and the Mobile Phone
* The Evolution of Traditional Retail
* Graphic Design Challenges for New Media

The Summit will be held from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Nov. 6 and Nov. 7 at McCaw Hall in Seattle with closing receptions following each night at Solo Bar.

Cost of the Summit is free for members of The Recording Academy as well as members of the GRAMMY University Network. Tickets are $175 for the general public for a two-day pass, or $100 for a one-day pass. To RSVP or purchase tickets, please call 206.834.1000 or e-mail [email protected].
