MADISON, NJ (Top40 Charts/
Savage Records) - For the first time ever, acclaimed Jazz pianist and composer Matt
Savage will perform with one of today's greatest Jazz bassists,
Joris Teepe, for a special night of concerts at Shanghai Jazz Restaurant and Bar on Thursday, October 16th. The piano/bass duo will have two shows at 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM. For ticket information please call 973-822-2899. Named "one of the top 100 Jazz clubs in the world" by Downbeat magazine, Shanghai Jazz is located at 24 Main Street (local I-24) in Madison, New Jersey.
Praised by Jazziz as a "wildly inventive composer, interpreter and pianist no matter what his age," pianist Matt Savage began his performing career at the age of 8 and developed his skill and maturity over the past 8 years, working with such jazz notables as Clark Terry, Jimmy Heath, and Bobby Watson, among others. He has performed at the Ottawa International Jazz Festival and the New Orleans Jazz Festival, as well as such famed jazz clubs as Birdland, Blue Note and Dizzy's Club Coca Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Savage has also won ASCAP'S Young Jazz Composer Award every year since 2004. He has made numerous media appearances including "The Late Show with David Letterman," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," the "Today Show," "20/20" and Marian McPartland's popular "Piano Jazz" show on NPR. "This young man plays with grace, energy and originality. Jazz savant indeed!" (Marian McPartland)
Several great bassists in Jazz came from Europe (Dave Holland, George Mraz among others), but Joris Teepe is the first musician from The Netherlands to be able to make it in New York. Arriving in New York in 1992 with just his bass and his suitcase, he quickly started to get work and a year later he recorded his first CD with Don Braden, Cyrus Chestnut, Carl Allen and Tom Harrell. From that point he became a bassist in great demand and he has been working with the "who's who in Jazz" from Benny Golson and Randy Brecker to Rashied Ali. Joris has also established himself as a bandleader (eight albums), composer, record producer and educator (director of Jazz Studies in Groningen and Bass teacher at Queens College in New York).
