NEW YORK (Pepsi press release) - Acclaimed film director Spike Lee will direct Destiny's Child star Beyonce Knowles's debut Pepsi commercial. Pepsi-Cola North America has hired Lee's advertising agency, Spike DDB, to create the spot, which will air in early 2003.

"Pepsi has a long history in its commitment to developing a relationship with the African-American and multicultural communities. They have set very high standards in meeting with this commitment," said Lee, who is the chairman and chief creative officer for Spike DDB. "Spike DDB is excited about the opportunity to work side by side with such great partners, and we are ready to go to work."

Spike DDB is a minority-owned, full-service advertising agency founded by Lee and DDB Worldwide. The agency is focused in integrated communications that target African-American and urban-minded consumers. Spike DDB will work with Pepsi on the new television commercial as part of a campaign that also will include radio, print, Internet advertising, and other promotions.

Knowles's debut solo album, Dangerously In Love, is expected to be released in March 2003. Pepsi also has the option to sponsor a Knowles solo concert tour, which she is reportedly considering for 2003.
