LOS ANGELES (RHCP Fans Website) -
Jane's Addiction plans to release its first studio new album in the summer of 2003, on Warner Bros. Records. A world tour is also in the works.
The Los Angeles outfit is finishing up the new album, which has a planned title of Hypersonic. Veteran boardman Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Lou Reed, Alice Cooper) has been producing the sessions at Henson Recording in Los Angeles, the former site of A&M Records and its studios.
Jane's Addiction's last studio set was 1990's Ritual De Lo Habitual, which featured its biggest hit, the alternative radio staple "Been Caught Stealing."
"We have had an amazing time creating with our new friends of the Jane's Addiction family, producer Bob Ezrin and his partner Brian Virtue," guitarist Dave Navarro posted on the band's official website.
"Bob has a unique and most welcomed perspective in terms of getting the very best out of us as creators and players," Navarro said. "I think that the combined energies of Bob, Brian, and all of us in Jane's Addiction has made this time in the band's career the most comfortable and enjoyable it has ever been. We have never been happier, freer, and more unified."
In a lineup shuffle, the band also has a new bassist, Chris Chaney, whose credits include work with Alanis Morissette and Andrew W.K. Chaney replaces former bassist Martyn LeNoble, who had played with Porno For Pyros, the '90s group formed by Jane's vocalist Perry Farrell and drummer Stephen Perkins.
The band's last release was 1997's Kettle Whistle, mixing older material with new tracks recorded by Farrell, Navarro, and Perkins; with Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers on bass. In 2001, the group played several reunion dates, including an appearance in Indio, California for the Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival, conceived in part by Farrell.
Jane's Addiction plays the Fillmore in Denver on December 28, and a New Year's Eve show December 31 at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles. The band launches an Australian tour in mid-January.
