Sydney, AU. (Top40 Charts/ EMI MUSIC Australia) - ...And the first obvious question we hear you ask is what is a Dilettante? We'll leave that one to Tim Rogers who says..."The meaning of the term has a duality - either referring to folks who dabble in appreciation of arts or culture, or those who have a deep love for works, or performers." On You Am I's eighth studio album - the follow-up to their 2006 album "Convicts" - one of Australia's most revered bands holed themselves up in warehouses and studios between Sydney and Melbourne during June and July again working with their long-time producer Greg Wales. During this period the band attempted to second guess and explore the process they would normally rely on to make a record. The album opens with the title track featuring acoustic guitar and Tim Rogers' vocal. Tim said of the cinematic sounding Dilettantes, "I first loved the word after hearing Duke Ellington use it to describe the members of his consistently brilliant bands. More often than not the people who have left the deepest impressions on me have been those who have delicately bashed my ears with their love of music, art, literature, and with no airs and graces, more peanuts and beer..." Of course You Am I's history of ARIA Awards (9 from 30 nominations), No 1 chart debuts (3) and name checking by local artists (Silverchair, Jet, The Vines...) is well documented but on looking forward to the release of "Dilettantes" EMI Music's CEO Australasia John O'Donnell says "...if Convicts pulled in the focus and was direct and angry and funny and rockin, Dilettantes (for me) is open and more varied and filled with all colours of the You Am I rainbow...it's a really great change-up after Convicts, neither better, nor worse - just the perfect next step..." New album "Dilettantes" in stores on September 13
