Grohl, Novoselic Jam

LA (Reuters) - Former Nirvana men Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic played together recently in a Los Angeles studio. The duo - recently united in a legal battle against their late band mate Kurt Cobain's wife Courtney Love over a proposed Nirvana box set - were joined by Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, L7's singer/guitarist Donita Sparks, Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins and legendary session drummer Jim Keltner (John Lennon, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan).
Although the impromptu supergroup laid down tracks, there are at present no plans to release them.

The jam was the latest in superstar collaborations for Foo Fighters main man Grohl, who recently completed work on the Tenacious D record. He's also been laying down some drums for QOTSA's in-progress LP, Songs for the Deaf, and is swiftly moving toward the completion of his own metal-centric solo record Probot, which has seen guest spots from the likes of Slayer's Tom Araya and Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister.

"Probot mixing has started," Grohl posted on the Foos official Web site. "Fucking monster heavy. Today's choice cut was 'Centuries of Sin,' sung by Cronos from Venom. Seriously evil shit. 'Aint no "Learn to Fly" happening on this album, I'm afraid. Don't worry though, I'm not gonna dye my hair black, start worshipping Satan, and join the dark side . . . just living out some childhood fantasies for now. Not sure when it'll be done, but for now it's a constant source of joy in my life."

Meanwhile, the Foo Fighters will play a fan-only show at the Los Angeles Troubadour on August 5th as a warmup for their upcoming overseas festival commitments. When they return, they will return to the studio to begin work on their next album.
"The decision is in, the producers have been chosen, the songs are on their way, we'll begin tracking just after the festivals," Grohl writes. "The last two years of touring has made a great difference in this band, and we're kind of writing from a live perspective. Never done that before."
