 NEW YORK (IFPI) - IFPI announced yesterday that Jay Berman's tenure as Chairman and CEO of IFPI has been extended for three years from January 1 2003. Berman joined IFPI in 1998, and this is the second time he has had his contract extended by the organisation's Main Board. Berman said: "I am delighted that the IFPI Main Board has asked me to head the organisation for three more years. IFPI has a huge work programme in progress, including fighting piracy, facilitating the development of new on-line business models and laying the legal groundwork for the digital music market" Jay Berman has been involved in the music industry for over 30 years. He served as President of the Recording Industry Association of America from 1987 and as Chairman from 1992. Prior to that he represented all of the Warner labels on the board of the RIAA in Washington DC. IFPI is the trade organisation of the international recording industry, its members comprising more than 1,500 record producers and distributors world-wide. IFPI has affiliate national groups in over 46 countries.
