NEW YORK (RIUN DMC Fans Website) - The tributes continued to pour in for Run-DMC DJ Jam Master Jay on Friday (Nov. 1), two days after he was shot and killed in New York.
Here is the latest:
"I am deeply saddened and shocked by the loss of my friend and long-time partner Jam Master Jay. He was family to me. We grew up together. We ate together. We slept together. We laughed together. We lived two-third's of our lives together. He made every DJ not want to use a DAT machine. He stuck to the true essence of what a DJ in a hip-hop performance should be. The whole music industry has lost a great talent. I always thought we would be together forever. I will truly miss him."
DMC (Darryl McDaniels)
"Jam Master Jay was one of the true greats of hip hop. As a DJ he was absolutely devastating and could rock a crowd like no one else who ever stepped to the wheels of steel. His amazing musicianship and unforgettable beats changed my life and changed the face of music forever, and he continues to be a tremendous inspiration. I feel fortunate and grateful to have seen him play many times and, right now, I am about to drop the needle on 'It's Tricky' and raise a toast to the great Jam Master Jay. The King of Rock will be missed."
Tom Morello, Audioslave
"We were greatly shocked and saddened by the news of the untimely death of Jam Master Jay. When we were down and out and in the depths, Jay and Run-DMC came along and said 'Come play on our record.' Run-DMC and Jam Master Jay's gift to the world was a new kind of music for a whole new generation, and their gift to us was a piece of ourselves back. Jay was scratching before anyone had the itch and was still at the top of his game when we played with him this summer. We will hear him every night when we play 'Walk This Way.'"
Aerosmith
"The family of Jam Master Jay would like to thank all of Jay's wonderful friends and fans who have offered their love, support, and prayers during this time. Jay's tragic death has left all of us numb. We pray that the person or persons responsible for taking away the breath from this loving husband and wonderful father is captured and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Jason's love, memory, and music will continue to live on through all of us."
Terri Mizell, wife of Jam Master Jay
"We're deeply, deeply saddened and devastated by the news. It's a terrible loss. He was a wonderful person and a great friend. If Jam Master Jay and Run-DMC hadn't looked out for us way back when, I don't know where we'd be now."
Beastie Boys
"For 15 years, I've had the honor of working alongside Jam Master Jay. That honor was taken away from me last night when my friend was brutally murdered. Jason was not only a talented producer and DJ, he was kind man, who had a passion for life and love for his family. As a member of Run-DMC he worked hard at helping other people and keeping things positive. I will truly miss him."
