MIAMI, FL. (Top40 Charts/ Aterciopelados Official Website) - Colombian music icons Aterciopelados won a Premio Lo Nuestro award last night in the "Best Rock Album" category for their release 'Oye' (Nacional Records). The award show aired nationally and internationally on Univision. 'Oye' was one of the most critically-acclaimed Latin releases of the past year. It climbed to No 1 on iTunes' top Latin albums chart by the end of its first day of release (ahead of artists like Maná, Shakira and Juanes) and remained at the top of the chart for a full week. Aterciopelados also hit No 1 on eMusic's overall Top Albums chart, beating out new releases from acts like Barenaked Ladies, Tom Waits, and Aimee Mann.

With 'Oye', Aterciopelados' first studio album in five years was a return to a more organic, rock sound reminiscent of their earlier work. "Complemento", the album's first single, is an upbeat declaration of love from someone who has found her soulmate; the person that complements her. The album also features Aterciopelados' trademark social and political commentary on songs like "Oye Mujer" which asks of women "are you a human being, or the erotic fantasy of some guy?" and "Paces", a call to action for peace.

'Oye's latest single and video is "Don Dinero" ("Mr. Money"), which addresses the power of money in our world. The chorus is "Mr. Money, how I want you so/Mr. Money, my one and only". As Aterciopelados lead singer Andrea Echeverri recently explained, "I'm trying to fight 'Don Dinero' lest all the world turn cold and money-driven. You have to open up to communicating with others, remain true to yourself and those closest to you."

The album's previous single was "Cancion Protesta" ("Protest Song"), which made waves for its outspoken social and political commentary against war and injustice. The video features the group using guitars fashioned out of former machine guns - the special guitars were given to Aterciopelados by the United Nations in support of its efforts to take guns off the streets of Colombia. With the critical and commercial success of their previous Grammy-nominated album 'Gozo Poderoso', Aterciopelados landed on the Top 10 of the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart as well as a coveted appearance on the 'Tonight Show with Jay Leno'.

Aterciopelados co-founders Andrea Echeverri (vocals, guitars) and Hector Buitrago (bass, arrangements, producer) both released attention-grabbing solo albums in the past year (Echeverri's received two Grammy nominations), further building anticipation for the band's new studio set. The new disc is produced by Hector Buitrago from Aterciopelados and mixed by Thom Russo (Johnny Cash, Juanes, Kinky).
