DALLAS, Texas (NAB Website) - Hispanic Broadcasting Corporation is proud to announce KGBT-FM La Nueva 98.5, Solamente xitos, has been named "Spanish Station of the Year" and awarded a prestigious Marconi Award by the National Association of Broadcasters ("NAB").

This coveted award recognizes radio's outstanding stations and personalities from across the United States. An independent task force selected the finalists in each of 20 categories and ballots were sent to members of the NAB Marconi Radio Awards Selection Academy in mid July.
The Marconi Award is the premiere award for radio.

"I am extremely honored and pleased that a national organization, the National Association of Broadcasters, would recognize the invaluable service that KGBT-FM La Nueva 98.5 Solamente xitos provides to our communities on both sides of the border, both in terms of service to the community, as well as delivering on its promise to entertain and hold our listeners' interest," said Joe A. Morales, Vice President and General Manager of HBC in McAllen, Texas. Hugo de la Cruz, Program Director, says, "We don't work within and for the community for the awards, we do this from our hearts," and added, "Of course, we are not strangers to the Marconi Award, having won it twice before." KGBT-AM first won the Marconi in 1993, and then again for the combo KGBT-AM/FM in 1998.

Established in 1989 and named after inventor and Nobel Prize winner, Guglielmo Marconi, the Marconi Awards are given to radio stations and outstanding on-air personalities to recognize excellence in radio. More than 100 radio stations and on-air personalities were selected as finalists for the NAB Marconi Radio Awards competition.

Hispanic Broadcasting Corporation, the largest Spanish-language radio broadcaster in the United States, currently owns and operates 55 radio stations in fourteen of the top twenty Hispanic markets. In June of this year, the company entered into a definitive merger agreement with Univision Communications; the pending merger is expected to close around year-end. The Company also owns and operates a network of Hispanic community-focused bilingual web sites found at www.netmio.com, and its corporate website can be found at www.HispanicBroadcasting.com.
