(Top40 Charts/ That Swan Productions) - Following two rewarding nights at the famed Velvet Lounge, his first performance in Chicago in over a decade, legendary trombonist, composer, and Chicago native, Julian Priester joins drummer Jimmy Bennington for his weekly gig at Ennui Cafe (6981 N. Sheridan Rd., 773.973.2233), Sunday July 15, 7-9pm.

Priester has played and recorded with The Sun Ra Arkestra, Duke Ellington, Max Roach, Dinah Washington, Lionel Hampton, Sam Rivers, and countless others. A longtime Professor at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, W.A., Julian's recording "In Deep End Dance" is available on Conduit Records; other recent recordings and collaborations can be found on Cadence Jazz Records and the CIMP label.
Chicago drummer Jimmy Bennington, who performed with Priester's Trio July 5 and 6 at the Velvet Lounge, hosts this ongoing Sunday evening series that features some of the finest improvising artists in and outside of Chicago, as well as Bennington's own highly developed solo performances. A former student, drumtech, and bandmanager for late Coltrane drummer Elvin Jones, Bennington works in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and South America collaborating with artists including Bert Wilson, Perry Robinson, David Haney, Ken Aldcroft, and Graham Ord and Paul Blaney of the NOW Orchestra.

This Sunday, Bennington and Priester present an intimate evening of Jazz and Improvised Music that will include explorations in pure sound as well as a standard or two from the Great American Songbook. This rare evening celebrates their new recording "Jimmy Bennington/Julian Priester - Portraits and Silhouettes (available on CD Baby)", as well as the welcome return of a true American Master.
