Los Angeles, CA. (Top40 Charts/ Virgin Records) - Critics darling Nikka Costa joined
Prince onstage for the finale of his first 3121 show at the Hollywood Roosevelt on Saturday, June 23. Costa shared the mic with
Prince on his anthemic track "Purple Rain," bringing the house down and all its attendees to their feet. The exclusive two hour show kicked off at 1AM and was host to a star-studded crowd including Penelope Cruz, P.Diddy, Nas, Hilary Swank and
Erykah Badu and others. Costa was right at home with the evening's swampy, Louisiana tinged funk sounds melding old Hollywood with the South circa the 1940's. Her relationship with
Prince dates back to her co-write of his track "Silver Tongue" which became the b-side to his single "Call Your Name."
Costa is perhaps best known for her radio hits "Everybody Got Their Something" and "Like A Feather." She is no stranger to the music business as she's the daughter of famed arranger/producer Don Costa (Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka, Dinah Washington, Tony Bennett) and the goddaughter of the late Frank Sinatra. Her dynamic, sultry and soulful vocals make her a highly regarded and relevant musician.
Costa's resume reads like a delicious musician's dream including extensive U.S and European touring with other incredible and varied talents including Erykah Badu, D'Angelo, Coldplay, AC/DC and Beck as well as her own headline dates. She performed at Yamaha's Elton John Tribute Concert with numerous other artists including Norah Jones, Ray Charles, John Mayer and received a standing ovation for her rendition of "Levon."
Currently, Costa has recorded a song for a pending Cy Coleman tribute project which also features tracks from Fiona Apple and Elvis Costello amongst others. In addition Costa is writing and preparing to record her 3rd album due out next year.
