Los Angeles, CA. (Top40 Charts/ Silent Giant) - Hip Hop artist "Down a/k/a Kilo" continues to blaze new paths for American-Latino rappers with his hit song, "Lean Like a Cholo," which is poised to take over the pop charts, as well the song already being a Top Ten rhythmic chart hit. While Down is definitely staying true to his American-Latino roots, his days as a niche artist are numbered. Down a/k/a Kilo has sold over 200,000 digital copies in the last month; more than any other artist on an independent label. Sales projections for the Down's - "Lean Like a Cholo" ringtone are anticipated to exceed over 1 million units.
Down will be the first "Cholo" to go pop, as evidenced by his appearance on Ryan Seacrest's morning show last Tuesday. Ryan Seacrest can't help but love the Latin pan-dulce pastries and Down's - Lean Like A Cholo, hit song. Its official, word has spread beyond American Latinos (the country's fastest-growing population), to mainstream pop culture as well. It's only a matter of time before "Cholo" becomes a household term.
Down is achieving his success with a tried and true formula. First and foremost, he surrounds himself with a great team, capable of taking his creative vision and turning it into a reality. Down is signed to Silent Giant Entertainment which is run by Edward "E-Dub" Rios, who has been referred to as the Russell Simmons of Latin Hip Hop. E-dub and Silent Giant keep their minds open to alternative ways of marketing Down's music, including comprehensive marketing strategies with multiple revenue streams.
Helen Yu, a Los Angeles entertainment attorney who represents Down and E-dub says: "With the music industry undergoing rapid changes, it is critical for artists to work with a team that understands how to combine traditional revenue streams such as touring, record sales, and endorsements, with iTunes, downloads, streams, ringtones, and online promotions. I am working with E-dub and Down to help expand their business. In addition, with so much success so quickly, one of my biggest jobs is helping my artists keep their 'eyes on the ball', 'not to sweat the small stuff', and 'avoid the pitfalls' that many new artists lay prey to. However, my most important job as an entertainment attorney is guidance in making strategic decisions to leverage an artist's momentum and keep their careers on track. E-Dub and Down have all of this covered, and I extremely honored to be working with such great and intelligent people."
