Aaliyah Pilot Autopsy Shows Traces Of Cocaine And Alcohol

NEW YORK (Aaliyah Fans Website) - The autopsy results of the pilot of the Cessna 402-B aircraft that crashed on takeoff in the Bahamas last August, killing R&B singer-actress Aaliyah and eight others, have revealed traces of cocaine and alcohol, according to the Bahamas Civil Aviation Authority.

The body of Luis Antonio Morales contained traces of cocaine in his urine and traces of alcohol in his stomach. Investigators are now aiming to determine how those substances could have affected his piloting of the aircraft, which could take up to two or three months.

Morales had a criminal record and pleaded no contest to a cocaine possession charge in Broward Country, Fla., just 12 days before the crash.. The pilot received three years probation for the charge. Additionally, his past criminal activity had consisted of charges of trying to sell $345 worth of stolen airplane parts last year, a theft charge for allegedly stealing a model airplane and tool box, and driving on a suspended license.

Along with the autopsy results, the Civil Aviation Authority also released the crash investigation report. While the report states it can't corroborate media allegations that the plane was reportedly 700 pounds over weight, the investigation did find corrosion in the aircraft's fuel filters and worn spark plugs.

"A mandatory Cessna Service Bulletin for auxiliary fuel pump wiring modifications dated August 1998 was never complied with, and that unidentified particles and corrosion were evident in the fuel filters," reads the report. "These are indications that routine maintenance was not being performed."

Last May, Aaliyah's parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against Virgin Records, video director Hype Williams, and the plane's owners and operators. Aaliyah was in the Bahamas to shoot the video for her last single, "Rock the Boat."
