WELLINGTON, New Zealand (Top40 Charts/ CD Baby PR/ Voeveo) - The largest seller of independent music on the web, CD Baby, has partnered with the specialist mobile content trading site voeveo.com to distribute its material globally to rising numbers of wireless device users.

Founder and president of CD Baby, Derek Sivers, said the selection of voeveo as a mobile content sales outlet signalled a new and exciting direction for the growth of digital music downloads.

"The worldwide uptake of single tracks and entire albums on wireless handhelds has accelerated rapidly as traditional mobile phone users increasingly adopt multi-media capable devices," Derek said. "We see this trend creating the need for an efficient delivery method to ensure independent music producers and mobile consumers benefit from the best possible trading environment."

He said the voeveo model had the big advantage of being an open community market for transacting music formatted to individual mobile users' requirements. "This device matching, coupled with digital rights control options, gives us the confidence to supply voeveo as one of our outlets with substantial number of sound tracks."

The chief executive of voeveo.com, Maurice Stilwell, says an initial batch of 50,000 tracks from CD Baby is being uploaded to voeveo this month, with more to follow in ensuing weeks.

"We see advances in mobile technology being hugely important for independent artists and their distribution agencies wanting to connect and do business with mobile consumers," he said.

"Evidence of this is apparent in the music charts and especially in countries such as Japan, Italy and Australia with high digital music adoption for wireless, as opposed to on-line devices."

Maurice said voeveo's community market concept was a place for mobile content creators and their fans to share information and make choices, without being locked in or locked out.

"It enables communication and fosters trade not only in audio files, but also in wallpapers, music videos, images and podcasts, all of which are part of the mobile revolution taking place."
