NEW YORK (NY Alternative Magazine) - The Red Hot Chili Peppers braved the rain at Ellis Island in New York City to deliver a 90-minute set of new and old material on Tuesday night (July 9). The show, which was commissioned by the Parks Department, was staged for radio winners, family members of 9/11 victims, and lower Manhattan businesses.
It celebrated the release of the band's new album, By The Way, and also aimed to bring business to areas suffering from the destruction of the Twin Towers.

The show started at approximately 8:20 p.m. on a stage that was set up adjacent to the wall of names on the island. The band opened the show with "By The Way," "Around The World," and "Scar Tissue."

The band was tight for the most part, but did have its off moments. Singer-songwriter Anthony Kiedis quipped at one point that since the band was "playing on an island, we can be as bad as we want and nobody can leave."

The Peppers played 13 songs, and then came out and encored with "Under The Bridge" and "Power Of Equality."

The set list in its entirety:
"By The Way," "Scar Tissue," "Around The World," "Universally Speaking," "Otherside," "Don't Forget Me," "Right On Time," "I Could Die For You," "Parallel Universe," "Can't Stop," "Californication," "Venice Queen," "Me & My Friends." Encore: "Under The Bridge" and "Power Of Equality."
