LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Daily News) - Multihyphenated entertainer Jennifer Lopez (Enough) is backing a movie about salsa singer Hector Lavoe. Lopez will both produce and co-star in the project. Lavoe's story is ripe for a big-screen treatment, since in a short 43 years he went from rags to riches and experienced a number of tragic, albeit cinematic, events: his brother's drug overdose, the death of his beloved mother, his own drug addition, the brutal murder of his mother-in-law, the accidental fatal shooting of his 17-year-old son, and an attempted suicide. Lopez will play Lavoe's wife, Nilda. Latin crooner Marc Anthony (Bringing Out The Dead) is in negotiations to star as Lavoe, notes Variety. Also, Lopez's former manager, David Maldonado, is writing the screenplay to the picture, which is expected to get rolling later this year.
