NEW YORK (Top40 Charts/ Sony International) - Already a fan phenomenon in Mexico and the U.S.,
Allison will be introducing its intense show to music-industry pros at South by Southwest (SXSW)
Music Conference
Continuing on and breaking ground as one of the few Mexico-based bands to join the Vans Warped Tour In less than a year, the four-man group Allison has risen from local favorites on the Mexico City alt-rock scene to become superstars of Latin punk music. This March, Allison will be introduced to music-industry pros from all over the world with showcase appearances at the SXSW music conference in Austin in which they are pictured on the cover of February's music brochure along with The Stooges and Pete Townshend.
The SXSW attendees are in for a great show featuring Allison's self-described "happy punk," kid-like energy, and beguiling juxtaposition of adorable teen idol looks with uncomprisingly aggressive music. Influenced by such groups as The Ramones and KISS, Allison pays tribute to the glam-metal godfathers with choreographed guitar- and bass-lunges on stage.
Allison's SXSW showcase is slated for Wednesday, Mar. 14, at Opal Divine's Freehouse (700 W. 6th Street) and will be performing along with Latin alternative bands Zoe, Austin TV and La Gusana Ciega.
On Friday, Mar. 16, they're booked at another Latin alternative showcase at The Rio in Austin (301 San Jacinto Blvd.) along with Mexican Institute of Sound, Los Abandoned and Los Burbanks.
Pivoting from a Latin theme to a punk theme, they appear in the afternoon on Saturday, Mar. 17, at the Vans Warped Tour showcase, taking place at Emo's (600 Red River St). Other Warped acts include the The Hollaways, Gallows and The Pinker Tones. Get there early, as Allison is the next-to-last band, and hot venues can easily sell out.
And the news gets even better for this exciting group. Allison plans to join the Vans Warped Tour 2007 in the West Coast. While all of Allison's music is in Spanish, the Vans Warped Tour has always welcomed bands with something new and different to offer annually with a summer celebration of punk, rock and extreme-sports youth culture.
Allison's late-fall U.S. club tour, launched in the middle of promotion for first single "Frágil," greatly exceeded expectations, with packed venues having to turn away fans in places such as San Antonio. They also performed in August at the Latin Alternative Music Conference in New York.
One of the fastest-selling debut releases in Mexican rock, Allison has been certified platinum in México. The group recently taped an Unplugged show for MTV who also awarded them Best New Artist, North at the channel's recent MTV Latin America Music Video Awards in Mexico City.
Plugged into the MySpace revolution from the get-go (www.myspace.com/Allison), Allison has racked up millions of spins of their music on the site.
The story of Allison began in 2002, when founding members Erik Allison and Manuel "Manolín" Ávila met in a Mexico City high school. Both of them loved fast, aggressive music, and both had already played in various bands.
The name Allison is a concept: "Allison" represents a single guy's soulmate, the girl who's perfect for him - he knows she's out there, but he hasn't met her yet.
