Houston to kick off its 2007 national "Get Your Money Right" tour on financial empowerment. Joining Co-Chairmen Russell Simmons and Dr.
Benjamin Chavis in
Houston will be R&B/pop stars
Ciara and Monica, hip-hop stars Chamillionaire, E-40, Chingo Bling and Slim Thug, Mathew Knowles, super producer Bryan-Michael Cox, and Congressman
Al Green (D- TX). Hip-hop television personality, Free, will co-moderate the Summit with Dr. Chavis.
The Hip-Hop Summit on Financial Empowerment is a grassroots effort to help engage young people in discussions about the importance of personal finance. The "Get Your Money Right" tour begins at Texas Southern University's Granville M. Sawyer Auditorium, located at 3100 Cleburne Street, in Houston, Texas. The program takes place from Noon-3 p.m. Doors open at 11 a.m.

This city continues to produce some of the best and most committed artists that help make a difference across America and throughout the world," emphasized Russell Simmons. "The Summit on financial empowerment is an opportunity to share important lessons about life and the effective use of money."
The title sponsor and partner of the tour is Chrysler Financial and the presenting sponsor is Anheuser-Busch. The Hip-Hop Summit on Financial Empowerment's "Get Your Money Right" National Tour, now in its third successful year, brings together the powerful combination of hip-hop stars and Chrysler Financial experts to speak to students and community members about the importance of financial literacy.
"These hip-hop artists and our panel of Chrysler Financial volunteers are a powerful combination to spread the word about a much needed life skill, money management," said Stephen Starks, Director - Southeast Business Center for Chrysler Financial. Young people relate to the panelists when they hear a message in their own language ... the language of the hip-hop generation."
The "Get Your Money Right" agenda features an interactive panel discussion on financial literacy, including such topics as the basics of banking, repairing and understanding credit scores, asset and wealth management, vehicle financing and home ownership. The tour will utilize the "Get Your Money Right" workbook, produced and distributed by HSAN in both English and Spanish and given to all participants. The workbook is free and is also downloadable at https://www.hsan.org.
The 2007 "Get Your Money Right" tour will make six more stops including Detroit, Mich., April 14; Toronto, Ontario in August; Greensboro, N.C., September 8; Washington, D.C., September 29; Miami, Fla., October 20; and Atlanta, Ga., November 3.

The media partners for the Houston Hip-Hop Summit on Financial Empowerment are The Box KBXX 97.9 FM Houston and KPRC-TV 2 Houston (NBC). Community partners include the Texas Southern University and TSU Student Organizations, the Houston Urban League, Tejano Center for Community Concerns, Houston NAACP and the Houston HSAN Youth Council.
