Houston hip-hop phenomenon
Chamillionaire continued to roll as the music world's most honored new artist, picking up his first-ever Grammy last night at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards, winning in the prestigious Best Rap Performance By Duo Or Group category, for 'Ridin',' featuring Krayzie Bone, the smash single from his platinum-plus debut effort The Sound Of Revenge.
"Ridin' was a song with a purpose. To be honored with a Grammy, which is recognition from the entire music industry that your message hit home, is a positive boost for hip-hop and a nod to my fans that their support and willingness to back the truth in this game can move mountains. I thank everyone who contributed to my success. I can't wait to drop my new album Ultimate Victory on y'all," explains Chamillionaire.
For the multi-award winning Chamillionaire, whose 2005 platinum-certified debut The Sound Of Revenge has already become a cornerstone of the rap lexicon, the Grammy triumph caps an unparalleled streak of accolades, which included the prolific artist snagging Best Rap Video honors for the 'Ridin'' video at last year's 2006 MTV Video Music Awards (beating out proven superstars 50 Cent and Busta Rhymes, among others) and two trophies at the First Annual BET Hip-Hop Awards for Rookie Of The Year and the Alltell Wireless People's Champ Award, as well.
Hailed worldwide for his major label platinum-plus debut, The Sound Of Revenge, the disc has become one of the pivotal hip-hop records of 2006, with the versatile Chamillionaire emerging as a mainstream, multi-platform superstar and entrepreneur. The single and video for 'Ridin'' became the most requested hip-hop anthem in radio and on TV, soaring to the top of the urban, hip-hop and mainstream radio charts while single-handedly transforming the 2006 digital music landscape. Chamillionaire was recently crowned the biggest selling Ringtone artist ever, with over 4 million ringtone sales, certified by the RIAA as the first multi-platinum Mastertone artist in history.
The ultimate 'Breakthrough Artist' of this or any year, the charismatic star has circled April 24th for the release of his much anticipated sophomore album, Ultimate Victory. The first single from the new disc, 'Not A Criminal,' featuring Kelis, has already set hip-hop chat rooms ablaze, hitting urban radio this Tuesday, February 13. Produced by Aussie newcomer Styalz Fuego, Chamillionaire promises the song is just 'the tip of the iceberg' when it comes to Ultimate Victory. The new disc boasts an all-star lineup of hip-hop stalwarts, including Cleveland legends Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Lil Wayne, Slick Rick, Pimp C and more. The superstar also teams up once again with fellow Texans Play N Skillz, who produced the Grammy winning song 'Ridin',' and Scott Storch, who produced 'Turn It Up,' from The Sound of Revenge.
Chamillionaire is also stepping into the TV arena as he makes a guest appearance playing himself on the new CW Networkcomedy series The Game, appearing in the 2-part season finale of the sitcom scheduled to air on May 14.
