ATHENS, Ga. (REM Official Website) - R.E.M.'s next album is moving along nicely in Athens, Ga., the band reported on Monday (June 10) on its official Web site. "Peter, Mike, and Michael just spent a great week in Athens working on songs and ideas for the new record," reads the post. "The project will really get underway later this year, but for now, everybody enjoyed putting things down on tape, hanging out in Athens, and just in general getting a feel for the new material. Some cool sounds and fun times enjoyed by all. And now back to writing, travel, side-projects - it is summer after all." This new album is the follow-up to 2001's Reveal. In May, the band posted 10 remixes of songs from the album on its Web site- dubbed its R.E.M. IX project - for fans to download. Remixers included Andy Lemaster, Marc Blanchi, Her Space Holiday, Jamie Candloro, and others.
