NEW YORK (Top40 Charts) - Ja Rule, Jay-Z, Wu-Tang Clan, Mos Def, Fat Joe, Ashanti and Dead Prez are all joining forces with hip-hop pioneer Russell Simmons for an event called Mobilization for Education scheduled for June 4th in New York City.

We are mobilizing the hip-hop community to join with the United Federation of Teachers and the Alliance for Quality Education because education is a vital issue for hip-hop, said Simmons in a statement. He goes on to say its up to the hip-hop community to stand up because no one else will.

The rally, in which the performers are expected to make speeches as well, comes the day before NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg is expected to make a $1 billion cut to education, which will have a devastating effect on inner-city schools.
