SANTA MONICA, CA. (Universal
Music Enterprises) - For the first time in its seven years, the "Songs For Life" Breast Cancer Outreach Campaign is going digital. Since its inception, the nationwide benefit project from the SuperValu Family of Stores (Albertsons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw's, and Acme) during October's
National Breast Cancer Awareness Month has rewarded consumers with a free music CD featuring popular artists and songs. This has been supplied by Universal
Music Special Markets and the catalog of Universal
Music Group (UMG), the world's largest music company, for the past three years. This year, instead of a pre-produced CD, the entire extensive digital catalog of UMG will be made available for free-with-purchase music downloads.
Purchases of participating brands at any of the SuperValu stores will trigger a coupon printed at the register. Consumers may then access the "Songs For Life" Web site (www.songsforlife.info) to input the coupon's pin code and receive their downloads. Purchasers of three qualifying products in a single transaction will be awarded two free downloads, of five products four downloads and of eight or more products 10 downloads.
Said Kathy Hale, Sr. VP, Universal Music Special Markets: "The transition to digital should increase the reach of the already successful compilation which is wonderful because it spreads the message to more and more people. But most importantly, 'Songs For Life' helps to spread the word about breast cancer awareness and at Universal Music Special Markets we are proud to participate in such a worthwhile cause."
Supporting partners and some of the participating brands include Kimberly-Clark (Huggies, Scott, Kleenex, Kotex), Pfizer (Listerine, Lubriderm, Benadryl, Sudafed, Visine), Clorox (Clorox Anywhere), and Newman's Own (Salad Dressing, Pasta Sauce). The Supervalu "Songs For Life" campaign will also make a $50,000 donation to breast cancer research, bringing the total donation to date to $550,000.
