London UK (IFPI) - IFPI today announces the appointment of Richard Gooch as Director of Technology for IFPI. Gooch has held the position of Deputy Director of Technology since joining IFPI in 1999. He will take up his new position, reporting to Chairman and CEO John Kennedy, on October 1. Richard Gooch has played a central role in IFPI's work to help develop the digital music market across the world. He has been involved in key technology projects, advising companies and national groups across the world, supporting IFPI's litigation actions and helping to represent the industry on issues such as DRM and interoperability. Richard Gooch is a Chartered Engineer and holds a PhD in engineering mathematics. He has worked in telecommunications and research, has won national engineering awards for innovation and has numerous patents and publications. John Kennedy said: "Richard is that rare thing - a technology expert who is able to make his subject understandable to the layman. His passion for music and all that is new in the world of technology makes him the perfect person for this role." Richard Gooch replaces Paul Jessop who has been seconded to IFPI's US affiliate the RIAA.
