Brett Dennen's critically acclaimed new album "
So Much More" rocketed into the digital stratosphere last week to claim the No. 1 most-downloaded spot on the iTunes folk chart, sharing the Top 10 with musical luminaries including Bob Dylan,
Damien Rice and Old Crow Medicine Show.
True to form, "So Much More" also landed in the coveted No. 1 chart position overall on eMusic, the second most popular digital download site.
Dennen is currently one of eight featured artists on the ever-popular MySpace Music home page, along with The Lemonheads, Monica and The Oohlas, among others.
"It is a rare combination when an artist can be as good a singer and guitarist as Brett is, but it is his commitment to the word that makes his songs live and breathe," raved Michael Franti, filmmaker and leader of the band Spearhead. "His music has a playfulness in its bounce, while the lyrics ring with a truth beyond his years."
Dennen has seen a groundswell of support across the country as fans spread the word about his music. He often sells out markets the first time he plays them, a testament to the word of mouth power he creates with an electrifying live show and a songbook filled with literate, rhythmically intense, emotionally powerful tunes.
American Songwriter magazine gave the album four and a half stars: "Dennen can pull off such disparate rhymes as 'akimbo,' 'window' and 'crescendo' without skipping a beat and 'I Asked When' is purely Dylan-esque in a 21st century 'Masters of War' kind of way. For those laid-back ladies that salivate over Jack Johnson as if he were a pork chop, Dennen can make estrogen bubble within a 12 block radius."
Dennen is currently opening select dates for Sheryl Crow and John Mayer's fall tour, and is also part of the rotating lineup for the 2006 Hotel Cafe Tour, which features 25 artists on one bus, with one band and one crew, in 35 cities. The Hotel Café, an intimate venue in Los Angeles, is a "hotspot" known for showcasing the most gifted singer/songwriter talent that Hollywood has to offer.
Dennen's album "So Much More" releases to retail this fall.
