NEW YORK (Top40 Charts) - Even though Monica is about to release a new album, the R&B singer says she's still looking for the right role to follow up her acting debut in the 2000 MTV movie "Love Song." Monica told on Monday night that all the scripts she's looked at since then have been similar to the character she played in the movie, a fluffy teen drama about an interracial romance. Now she's looking for something more "serious," she said. The 22-year-old spoke at a party to preview her new disc, which is due in July on J Records. This is her first full album since 1998; she's best known for her hits as a teen-ager, including "Don't Take It Personal" and "The Boy Is Mine," her Grammy-winning duet with Brandy. The singer, whose full name is Monica Arnold, said she's spent her downtime in her hometown of Atlanta. She said she's a low-key Southern girl, and has no interest in living in a city like New York . "New York is too fast," Monica said. Even when she comes to New York, she doesn't hang out, she said. "You won't hear about Monica being in a club," she said, "because I'm up in my room."
