David Bosch/ KOCH Records) - DRG Records proudly announces the release of "Liza Minnelli: The Complete Capitol Collection," a 2-disc set encompassing all of the first solo studio albums and singles made for Capitol Records by a true entertainment icon, Liza Minnelli.
Certainly everything Liza Minnelli does could be considered monumental, yet this music represents true entertainment history. Here, for the very first time on compact disc, are long forgotten musical masterpieces from 1963-1966, when Minnelli was a teenager. All of her first solo albums and singles are here - literally every studio recording she made under a lengthy association with Capitol Records - an astounding 55 songs in all.
Of the 55 songs on this new collection, 31 tracks have never appeared on CD before. 21 of which are either rare singles or never before heard outtakes.
This new CD set was digitally remixed and remastered in 24-Bit, directly from the original multi-track session tapes (the 3-track and 4-track tapes) by David McEowen at Capitol Mastering, Capitol Records, in Hollywood. The Collection's producer Scott Schechter says, "Using the original session tapes has stripped away a whole level of added reverb heard on the original LPs, and, as such, has a much cleaner, warmer, brighter sound, with much more presence to Liza's voice, which is as it should be. She sounds like she's in the same room, singing right to you. You can hear everything better than ever. It's like hearing the songs for the first time, and an entirely new listening experience." Along with the sparkling sound, this two-disc CD set also features a lavish 20-page booklet, which includes rare artwork, such as a 1965 promotional ad, stunning portraits of the young Liza, the original album covers, and detailed liner notes by Schechter, preeminent authority on Minnelli's career.
"Liza Minnelli: The Complete Capitol Collection" contains the star's very first solo albums - "Liza! Liza!," released in 1964; "It Amazes Me," released in 1965; and "There Is a Time," released in 1966. The albums were all critically acclaimed and successful, but have never appeared in full on CD before in their complete, original (and stereo) form - until now. Also included are a whopping 21 single and outtake tracks. (The 45 RPM singles were all originally released in mono sound only, back in the early to mid-'60s.) Also never heard before are outtakes: Songs recorded during the sessions, but not released, and are thus making their world debuts here. These include Liza's first theme song - her "Liza With a 'Z'" signature piece.
