LOS ANGELES (Capitol Records/ www.letoya.net) - Capitol recording artist LeToya's solo career is off to a blazing start, with her self-titled solo debut bowing at No 1 on the Billboard 200 and selling almost 165,000 copies in its first week of release. Early reviews of LeToya - which features production from Scott Storch, Walter Millsap, Teddy Bishop and
Jermaine Dupri and guest appearances by Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Bun B and
Slim Thug - have been extraordinary, with Entertainment Weekly hailing it as a "solid bid for solo stardom." "Songs like the soulful hit ballad 'Torn' and the bouncy hip-hop track 'Gangsta Grillz' will have R&B fans saying her name," predicted People while the Los Angeles Times observed "she stands firm on the same strong-woman ground occupied by DC and Beyonce. And that never gets old."
Now she's poised to follow the success of lead single "Torn" - which was No 1 on R&R's Urban Top 50 chart two weeks in a row while the accompanying video topped BET's "106th & Park" countdown for 25 consecutive days and was added at MTV, VH1 Soul, MTV Hits MTV Jams, BETJ, Yahoo! Music and AOL Music - with the sexy second single, "She Don't."
BET and AOL Music recently premiered the video for "She Don't" (her second in a row with director Chris Robinson) and BET's "Access Granted" gave viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the video, which has also been added by VH1 Soul, BET and MTV Jams. Last week LeToya appeared on "Live with Regis and Kelly" and BET's "106th & Park" and stopped by AT&T's Blue Room for an exclusive interview and performance. She was Cingular Sounds' featured artist on the day of her album's release and her recent show in Atlanta was taped for the new Cingular Sounds Live concert series, which generates exclusive content specifically for the mobile environment. Using their 3G-compatible wireless phones, Cingular customers could catch highlights of LeToya's show just days after the event. She has been nominated for a Teen Choice Award in the "Choice Female Artist Breakout" category. And look for LeToya this fall in an episode of MTV's new reality series "24/7."
