LONDON, UK (IFPI) - "The copyright law adopted by the French Parliament is a great improvement on the December text of the National Assembly which would have stopped the development of legal online music services in their tracks. The current text, while it still raises a number of concerns for the recording industry, nevertheless allows us to continue to deliver exciting music online to consumers in a variety of ways. The law's final provisions on interoperability also ensure that the creative content of artists and producers is protected. "The recording industry is now waiting for a Government decree to clarify the sanctions that will apply to some aspects of unauthorised file-sharing. If those sanctions are going to be effective, they have to act as a genuine deterrent."
