NEW YORK (www.templeofhiphop.org) - As you know, May 15-22, 2006 is the 9th Annual Hip Hop Appreciation Week; our theme for this year is 'ACTION'! The main purpose of HHAW is to de-criminalize the images of the Hip Hop community and to celebrate the positive, productive and progressive aspects of our culture, our leaders and us.

In case y'all forgot, TODAY, May 16, 2006, is Hiphop Independence Day! Today, Hip Hop Kulture will also celebrate the 5th Anniversary of the Hiphop Declaration Of Peace (HDOP)! This is the document that was presented at the United Nations on May 16, 2001, by KRS-One, Chuck D, James Mtume, Kool DJ Herc, Temple of Hiphop, Universal Zulu Nation, and over 300 Hiphoppas, to the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Ribbons International, Peace Action, New York's City Hall and the Riverside Church. This was a major step establish Hiphop Kulture as an international culture of Peace and Prosperity, giving us a set of 18 Principles that will allow us to govern ourselves as an international collective community, for more info, visit www.templeofhiphop.org.

The metro Atlanta Hip Hop community has always taken the lead in having great HHAW events and with all the hype surrounding the ATL; we want to use it to benefit our entire community, not just the entertainment industry.
