Born in Munich Germany, since 2000 living and working in NYC, the name Sena was given to her 1997 during a tribal gathering in Ouidah, ancient Dahome, Benin, West Africa. "There is no "eventually" in my life , as there is no "approximately" or "maybe" in music or anything else in life that is successful," Sena says. "My mindset is precise and all I have to do is focus and follow my inner voice. It takes time to make visions come true. Patience is an important factor. If you listen to my CD you will hear that what I am aiming for is bigger than my person. I pass on my experience. My name is Sena. I received that name from the black mother of my first percussion player . It's a tribal name. An african name. The meaning is "bringing heaven on earth". That is my goal."
Sena was raised in white Europe, but she has definitely black Africa running down her veins. She lived in India and Asia, visited Africa and the Middle East and her body and soul is in tune with these rhythms and melodies: "that is where I feel at home". Her voice was opened by an african american belcanto opera and jazz Singer. At an early age Sena played percussion in ballet class; and she is a poet: "Poetry is music with words" she says. She feels inspired from Mahler to Miles to Marley, from Schubert to Chopin to Santana to Sting, from Billie Holiday to Sly Stone to Sade to Ravi Shankar to Omkal Sum - Music and Poetry have to touch my soul, no matter if expressed by a child or a skilled artist, if it is from the heart it awakens my spirit. Even if I am in a serious conversation - if there is a soothing rhythm playing in the background I can't help listening - in India and Africa I sometimes woke up at night and chased down a drum sound in the far distance and ended up in the neighbors village.
