Richmond, VA (www.bioritmo.com) - Based 9-piece salsa powerhouse BIO RITMO (www.bioritmo.com) is proudly rooted in the great Afro-Cuban & Puerto Rican salsa traditions. Their vision is to remain true to the rhythmic foundation, yet continue to evolve salsa into the future through skillful layering of jazz, urban, electronic and global sonic influences. As such, both BIO RITMO' body of music and range of audiences who pack rooms and festivals for their shows are incredibly diverse. The band recently toured Puerto Rico to sold-out crowds, and is scheduled to play at Lincoln Centre in New York City in July – further testament to their impressive crossover dynamics

Celebrating its 15th anniversary this year since its origin as a percussion ensemble in 1991, BIO RITMO has released four critically-acclaimed full-length albums: Bio Ritmo (2004); Rumba, Baby Rumba (Mercury, 1998), Salsa Galactica (1997) and Que Siga La Musica (1996). Their next album, produced by the legendary multiple-Grammy winner Jon Fausty, is slated for release in early 2007.

What The Press Is Saying
"A tight cooking 9-piece ensemble, the band lays claim to the brassy Latin dance sound of the 70's. Bio Ritmo represents the sentiments of a younger dance crowd searching beyond the jejune prescription and superficial flash of Latin pop." - Global Rhythm Magazine

"The passionate, unashamedly retro sound is fresh because the band captures the same verve as the original innovators. Sometimes they do make 'em like they use to." - Exclaim! Magazine

"They prove it is still possible to be true to the roots while expanding the parameters of their music in an intelligent, thoughtful and entertaining way. We want more groups like Bio Ritmo." - The Beat Magazine
