LONDON, UK (BBC Radio 1) - Hear'Say are to recruit a replacement for Kym Marsh by holding open auditions. The remaining four members revealed on their website they will give another pop wannabe the chance to become part of the Hear'Say phenomenon. They are due to announce when the open audition will be held, giving someone the lucky break they received on the hit show Popstars. "We have been faced with some choices and although as a four piece we feel more united, ambitious and stronger then ever, we decided that to give Hear'Say the best opportunity, and because we owe it to our fans, that we should recruit a new member to give the band a new fresh look and line up," reads a statement. The group finally admitted on Thursday that Marsh has quit, less than a year after winning a place through the hit show Popstars. Rumours were rife she had fallen out with fellow bandmate Myleene Klass. But the band have given the reason that she wants to spend more time with her children and that her priorities had changed. "Kym has not been entirely happy and fulfilled with her position in the band and so it was decided by her that it was best to move on to allow Hear'Say to achieve its optimum," they added. The group rose to instant fame after winning the final of Popstars, beating off competition from thousands of hopefuls. Their two singles and debut album went straight to number one, but subsequent releases have fared less well. There had been constant speculation the female members did not get on and the final straw came over a trip to entertain troops in Oman.
Marsh was reportedly happy to do the show but became increasingly uncomfortable when she discovered a film crew would be recording the events, feeling it had become a publicity stunt. The mother-of-two also started a high-profile relationship with EastEnders star Jack Ryder. The departure of Marsh was one of the worst kept secrets in showbusiness, and bookmakers had already put odds on Hear'Say becoming the next band to split after the demise of Steps. It is expected Marsh will embark on a solo career, while the remaining members of Hear'Say attempt to put the battles behind them before going on tour.
